Art?
I don't know if I would call making children cry sick, but it is certainly pretty tasteless. Michelle makes a point about the reaction the liberal press and Democrats would have if this were a conservative making references to a liberal administration and it is right on the money.
Update - I have done a bit more reading around the web, and apparently she goes a bit farther than just provoking the children to get them crying. She strips them down and works them into a state of emotional distress. She even stated in an article with American Photo magazine how frustrating it was to get the parents of less than cooperative children to step out of the studio for a minute. WTF would she need to ask them to step out for unless she was saying shit to the kids that their parents shouldn't hear?
I have been reading Thomas Hawk's blog for awhile, I came across it a few months back when I was doing a search to find out how to get flickr to work with MCE, and I really respect his opinion. Apparently the Liberal Jill Greenberg who believes in free speech has decided that that does not apply to anyone that disagrees with her art and has gone as far to contact Hawk's employer as well as threatening libel.
What a crock of shit. I am by no means any kind of artist nor a professional photographer, by I did work for a photographer for several years and you just DO NOT treat children like this. My boss did some baby photos of my son when he was very young, and of course SOME of them have him crying, mainly because he was unhappy being dressed. We fixed the situation and made him more comfortable. Would I see anything wrong in publishing the crying pictures of him? No, because he certainly wasn't provoked to that point, it's just what he happened to be doing at the time.

Jenni, an occasional commenter made a point about my post about Art and child abuse allegations. Her point, and it is right on the money, is that the parents are the ones responsible for their own children. Duh. I... Read More
That is sick - someone should give her a swift kick between the legs (with steel toe boots) and make HER cry. That IS abuse if you ask me.
hey, artisits are weird. they do weird things. i saw an artist set a bunch of toys in cement blocks and call it art. i think you should be outraged at the parents that agreed to this experiment, rather than the person taking the pictures.
after all, it's the parents that are responsible for these kids' well-being, not the artist(although i use that term lightly).
My mom's side of the family is very arty. My mom, both her sisters, my great-aunts, my grandmother, even all of the men. Photographers, painters, musicians, actors. My grandad was also an inventor as well. My brother is a talented writer. I am the only one who is not particularly creative and that is the results of too much partying when I was younger (I killed a brain cell or two).
NONE of them are this fucked up and we have a pretty fucked up family.
