Religious Symbols and Holidays

Updated - Apparently the Airport has decided to put back it's trees, and the Rabbi will not sue, and has even offered to donate a Menorah to display. They will be working together to plan next years display. Maybe I just don't get it because I am not a religious person but this all seems to be a bunch of PC bullshit. Christmas trees and lights to me mean something entirely different than to other people, so I don't take it quite as seriously.

I was reading a bit of news and saw where the Seattle-Tacoma Airport had removed all of their Christmas trees because a Rabbi had threatened to sue (the article initially says that he had complained and requested) if they didn't put a giant Menorah out front with them.

The airport spokesperson commented that:

After consulting with lawyers, port staff believed that adding the menorah would have required adding symbols for other religions and cultures in the Northwest. The holidays are the busiest season at the airport, Betancourt said, and staff didn't have time to play cultural anthropologists.

He he. I laughed when I read that. I am not particularly religious, so I don't get this one. I could see if they had a giant baby Jesus in the manger out front, but Christmas trees? It's not like they are a religious symbol. The Christmas tree is actually older than Christianity and to most people it stands for the Christmas Holiday, and nothing more. Yeah, Christmas was usurped by Christianity and is a Christian holiday now, but there is nothing particularly religious about them. As a business manager, I guess I would have responded exactly as the airport did in this politically correct ass kissing age. Fuck you, now no one gets decorations. Happy Winter Holidays asshole.
