I posted about Kathy Sierra recently, and the death threats that she received recently on the Internet. It's a pretty sad thing when our flames or rage get out of control and hurt someone. I've had one awful troll here last year (or maybe the year before, I don't really remember) and it was pretty nasty. I reported it to law enforcement but they basically looked at me like I was some sort of dumbass. Fat lot of good that did. I ended up going through the dude's ISP and filing a formal complaint with them.
Anyway, it's pretty distressing, even Zonker got in on the act and posted twice. In the same day. You know it's a big deal then. First I check USA Today, then I check Thunder and Roses :)
Anyway, from what I have been reading Tim O'Reilly is calling for a Blogging Code of Conduct. Oh HELL NO. Something that we can pledge is one thing. I will be happy to join in as long as it's simple and doesn't threaten what I post. We already have laws to take care of terroristic threats, and apparently Kathy Sierra is making use of those. Thats a good thing. A blogging code of conduct that is administered by law (as was brought up by O'Reilly) is a step toward censorship.

There are plenty of ways to find the ISP of this bozo. Police can obtain search warrants for the MAC and IP addresses.
It's just a matter of finding a cybercrime savvy cop.
When I had some issues with a troll, I looked up the ISP myself and dealt with their tech support and took the information to the police. All they had to do was fax Comcast a request but were unwilling to do it. I ended up just filing a formal complaint with them so that they would at least him a cease and desist letter.
You hit my site after USA Today? Damn, that hurts.
Well, you know how it is.Actually I go to Ellison's, THEN I go to your site :)
