Apparently the Britons had boarded a vessel suspected of smuggling cars in what is claimed as Iraqi waters. The sailors were preparing to leave an re-board their warship when up to six Iraqi Navy ships surrounded them and took them into custody.
The British government has demanded their release and has summoned the Iranian Ambassador to explain the incident.
