The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 prescribes procedures for the physical and electronic surveillance and collection of Foreign intelligence information between or among foreign powers1
Basically it has four parts; electronic surveillance, physical searches, pen registers and trap & trace devices for foreign intelligence purposes, and access to some business records for foreign intelligence purposes. It was amended by the USA Act (part of the so-called patriot act) in 2001 to include terrorism on behalf of groups that are not backed specifically by any certain foreign government. The act currently limits it's use on United States Citizens, but that may be about to change if our wonderful government has any say in it.
The FISA Modernization Act is currently sitting in Congress. There is an unclassified version of the bill that you can read, but apparently no one really understands the full potential or ramifications. There is supposedly a classified version that is even worse, it has a code name "the FISA Modernization Act". The President seems to consider the old version primitive and limiting as well as in need of modernization. The modernized version of the bill will most likely allow the government to monitor all of our phone calls without a warrant, and with no limitations.
Why is this secret? Who are they trying to fool, the terrorists? Don't they and you think that the terrorists already know that we are listening? The only people that DON'T know what the government is doing are it's citizens. Our enemies are fully aware of what we do and how we do it, so the only thing that this bill will do is to take us one step closer to a police state where Big Brother knows what you are doing and says where you can go and who you can talk to.
Tell your elected representatives to kill the so-called "FISA Modernization Act."

you know, why don't we get off our lazy fatasses and do something about our government and the rest of the world... it only takes one person to change the world. and that desire rests in each and every one of us. we need to stand up for OUR rights before there all gone.......... jffro
