I don't know what it is but I have never considered myself to be a dog person. I like cats. I have always had cats my entire life and although we have had a few dogs growing up I much prefer the felines. There have been a few dogs in my life though and I can see why dog lovers really adore them. My Great Aunt had a collie named (of course) laddie as I was growing up and I really loved this dog. Whenever I would visit her, whether that be on the weekends when she was still in Atlanta or summers in Tampa we were inseparable. Wherever I would go so would the dog. I probably even slept with the thing, I don't really remember.
We do have a dog right now. After we bought the house a friend of ours gave us her dog that she had adopted. He is very nervous and prone to barking at anything that moves. He's not any type of special breed but just a mutt, but those seem to be the best kinds of pets, at least as far as I am concerned. I hated the thing when we first got him, but somehow over the last few years Riley has become part of the family. He sleeps at my feet on the bed and would probably get right up next to me if I let him. If I am working at my desk, like right now, he is sleeping on my feet, and if I am napping he is there as well.
Off an on we have toyed with the idea of putting in a fence in the back yard and moving him outside but he is such a loud dog when anything moves I don't think that would be a good idea anymore. I think that maybe the next best thing for us to do would be to look at dog gates and maybe just block off parts of the house. He has gotten pretty good about waiting to go outside to use the bathroom but we work so much that sometimes he just can't help himself and he pees on the carpet.
This is Riley on his favorite chair...

Certainly not an AKC registered show dog but he's part of our family and it is amazing to me that I can dislike dogs so much yet love my dog anyway.
