The Paris Catacombs - Shadowscope

The Paris Catacombs

| Share on FriendFeed | DIGG This | Comment

Back in the 1700's Paris cemeteries had gotten so overcrowded that the bodies wouldn't even decompose. The stench in the city was so bad that they moved a lot of them into the catacombs, which had originally been a limestone mine. This is one of the creepiest places on earth and has pretty much been off limits to the public for a long time.

I have to agree with you that is a little to creepy and I didn't watch the whole clip...

"has pretty much been off limits to the public for a long time"

not true! the catacombs tour was one of the most popular (definitely one of my favorite experiences) and less expensive tours in paris. and being a self guided tour, there are plenty of ways to get loose of the main route, if you were into that sort of thing.

weird that they never mention the black plague. it wasn't just an overstock of corpses, it was rampant disease that caused the creation of the catacombs.

That's cool. Last I had read they were still off-limits. I am just creepy enough to want to go check it out.
