3rd Party Candidates

| Share on FriendFeed | DIGG This | Comment

I just watched this video over at CNN about how difficult it is for 3rd party candidates in an election. Ballot placement, if they can petition to get on the ballot at all, is crappy; there is little to no media coverage; the requirements in most states are much more difficult than they are for the two major parties; government funding such as that which the major candidates receive is impossible to get until after the election; all of these things add it up to make the deck stacked against 3rd party candidates.

So how many 3rd party candidates have we had in the last 231 years? That's a big fat zero. 0. nada.

About the only way that they can get noticed at all is by doing exactly what Ron Paul has done this time around, run as one of the two major political parties. Even then it's no guarantee as Paul and some of the other lesser-well-known candidates can tell you.
