According to CNN, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has shot to the top of a new poll in South Carolina, leading Republican presidential candidates in the key southern state.
In a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted over the phone between Sunday and Wednesday he got around 24%. The survey was released earlier today.
One of the things that I like about him mirrors the poll, and that is his personality. He tops the list when likely GOP voters are asked to name the candidate who is most believable. I remember another former Arkansas Governor who seemed extremely believable and down home as well. I voted for that guy back when I was in my twenties. I don't know that I will make the same mistake twice. I certainly don't have to like a guy to vote for him. As a matter of fact I think that maybe we should take the biggest asshole and vote for him. Assholes are pretty effective and generally get more done than people who are trying to please the whole gamut.
Surveys are bullshit anyway. Nobody's ever called me and asked who I was going to vote for.
The poll also showed Ron Paul in sixth place with 11% of the vote. That's pretty darned good for a libertarian. One can only hope that the rest of the candidates get the message and maybe adopt some of Congressman Paul's policies into their campaigns. I still like Ron Paul and think that if he had a good cabinet he would make a very good president. The biggest issues I have with him are his lack of foreign policy experience. Ron Paul is probably the candidate that lies less and would stick with his principles more than any of the rest of the Republican candidates.
Here are the results of the poll, from CNN:
GOP poll results
- Mike Huckabee: 24 percent
- Fred Thompson: 17 percent
- Rudy Giuliani: 16 percent
- Mitt Romney: 16 percent
- John McCain: 13 percent
- Ron Paul: 11 percent
- Duncan Hunter: 1percent
- Tom Tancredo: 1percent
- No opinion: 3 percent
Margin of error: plus-or-minus 4 percentage pointsA big addition to the Huckabee campaign is the addition of Ed Rollins as his national campaign manager. Ed Rollins was one of the key people behind Ronald Reagan's landslide victory over Walter Mondale in 1984.
One other reason that I also tend to like Mike Huckabee is the fact that he supports the FairTax, which I have been championing for a few years now. Ron Paul is for rewriting and eventually doing away with the IRS but the fact is that with the level of government involvement there has to be some income and the FairTax will take care of that as well as Social Security and Medicaid, allow us to start keeping all of our paychecks, stimulate growth in the business sector and also start taxing the untaxed, i.e. illegal immigrants, drug dealers and anyone else that currently stays under the radar of the IRS.

I've just finished reading a Post by Bob Cesca over at Huffington Post entitled The Lies of John McCain and Mike Huckabee. Oh my god I laughed my ass off. He has posted some numbers from a Gallup poll that I am putting below:
-Americans are pro-choice (67 percent)
-Americans support the Geneva Conventions with regards to torture (57 percent)
-Americans don't want the government snooping in their bank and Internet records (67 percent)
-Americans want the USA Patriot Act changed or eliminated entirely (81 percent)
-Americans support protecting the environment at the expense of economic growth (55 percent)
-Americans believe that global warming is happening (86 percent)
-Americans believe that it's the government's responsibility to provide health care (69 percent)
-Americans support the decriminalization of marijuana (55 percent) and support the legalization of medical marijuana (78 percent)
-Americans think we've lost the war in Iraq (64 percent)
-Americans are opposed to attacking Iran (68 percent, according to a CNN Poll)
-Americans support labor unions (60 percent)
-Americans want government funding of embryonic stem cell research (56 percent)
-Americans believe that free trade hurts American workers (65 percent)
-Americans believe rich people and corporations aren't paying enough taxes (66 and 71 percent respectively)
-And overall party affiliation? 54 percent of Americans are Democrats (with leaners) and 39 percent are Republicans (with leaners). You know what? He's fucking 100% right. I may be economically conservative (which is exactly what I look for in Republicans and haven't been getting) but overall socially I would be considered a liberal. My problem with liberals and why I haven't voted for a Democrat since the first go-round with William Jefferson Clinton is the fact that there are far too many moonbats that don't have a fucking clue as to how things operate, and another great portion of them that would be wholeheartedly satisfied for us to live in a Socialist state.
Let's see how I pair up with the poll.
I am pro-choice. My personal feelings are that I am against abortion but I don't feel that I have the right to tell anyone else how they should live. I do think there should be some limits set on how far along the mother can be before we say STOP! but that is more for a discussion with doctors, of which I am not one and neither are half of the idiots making policy on this issue.
I support the Geneva Conventions with regards to torture but that's a pretty hard decision to make coming from someone not serving. I have heard the argument that the other side uses it, so why shouldn't we? Or how about the argument that it's worth it if it saves a few lives. I can see the point but someone needs to take the moral high ground. When we sink to the level of terrorists we have given up that high ground.
I damn sure don't want to government snooping in my bank and Internet (or library) records. It's none of their fucking business.
I am against the Patriot Act as I have written in the past. It is a horrible intrusion and should never have happened.
I believe that global warming is happening but I also believe that it is a normal part of the geologic history of the planet as any REAL scientist that pays attention to what is going on will tell you. Extrapolating made-up numbers from the past 145 years gives you no data to make a valid decision from and the stupid people that believe it are that, fucking stupid. Americans are sheep and believe what the mainstream media tells them. Drink the koolaid fuckers.
Americans believe that it's the government's responsibility to provide health care. They also believe it's the government's responsibility to wipe their ass as well apparently. Sheep. Koolaid. I think it's MY responsibility to provide my OWN healthcare and that of my children. If the fucking lawyers would stay out of it and the judges start throwing out frivolous lawsuits, healthcare would be much more affordable. As it is we have about the best system you can find and if you believe that crap that Michael Moore throws out about Cuba you are fucking stupid.
A agree with most Americans and support the decriminalization of Marijuana and the legalization of medical marijuana.
I don't agree that we have lost the war in Iraq. I do believe that the mainstream media is losing their war against the war in Iraq.
I am opposed to attacking Iran unless provoked.
I hate labor unions and think they are a worthless remnant of a past society.
I guess it's about half and half for me then, but I would have to say that I would also be considered fairly liberal, or maybe libertarian is more like it, but then I have claimed that moniker for years now.

To My Fellow American’s now more than ever the time has come to evaluate the Republican Candidates for President.
As time passes, we are learning more about the top-tier candidates for the Republican nomination. We are learning where they stand on the issues that face this nation.
I’m learning some candidates hold positions on issues that cause me concern and I wonder, do you feel the same? As a Reagan Republican, I’m looking for someone who is a true conservative, a straight talker, and someone who understands the dangers America faces.
I’m looking for someone who has shown he can win over Independents and Conservative Democrats. I’m looking for someone that adheres to the Reagan philosophy on all issues.
Now more than ever in this day and time we the people are responsible for the character of our Government. If that Government body is ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, which it is, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption.
If our Government is intelligent, brave, and moral, it is because the people demand high standards of our representatives in the national legislature. So, I ask you, what is it that you demand?
From within the current candidates vying for the GOP nomination, I have found a candidate that holds these high standards and I would like to suggest you take a look at Congressman Duncan Hunter for President.
I’m not a high-powered campaign operative; I’m just a regular guy with 3 children who’s a Reagan conservative. Let me share some of the reasons with you that I have chosen to support Duncan Hunter for President.
Today, it seems some have forgotten our beginnings. Instead of Americans with a shared vision, we have become a nation divided. We have become a nation of individuals and groups, each with a special interest vision, often without thought for what is best for the nation. We are, however, a nation that at one time had an immutable vision for all. Duncan Hunter is a man that has a vision for the nation, a vision that includes all men and it’s the same vision that our Founding Fathers held for this nation.
Duncan Hunter supports:
Duncan Hunter believe that God has endowed men with certain inalienable rights as set forth in the in the Declaration of Independence and that no legislature and no majority, however great, may morally limit or destroy these; that the sole function of government is to protect life, liberty, and property and anything more than this is usurpation and oppression.
1) Securing our Borders – Duncan Hunter wrote the bill to build a border fence across the southern border. He built the fence in San Diego. Duncan Hunter supports our border patrol agents and is a strong advocate for the release of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean.
2) Our Military and their Mission – a decorated Vietnam Army Ranger with 26 years on the Armed Services Committee. Duncan Hunter has the experience to lead America in a time of war.
3) Fair Trade Policies – Duncan Hunter Insists trading partners such as China stop cheating on trade agreements. Duncan Hunter will protect American Jobs. This is not protectionism, but fair and equitable trade.
4) The Sanctity of Life – Duncan Hunter has earned a 100% rating from the National Right to Life, Concerned Women for America, Eagle Forum, and the Family Research Council.
5) The 2nd Amendment – Duncan Hunter earned an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association and an A from Gun Owners of America.
These are the Conservative Values of the Republican Party. Let's face it, the Republican nominee is going to get support from many quarters because of whom the Democrats are going to nominate.
They just don't share the values of mainstream America. Why not nominate a candidate who supports conservative values. History shows when we nominate Presidential candidates with strong conservative credentials, we win elections.
When we don't, we lose. Incidentally, Duncan Hunter first won his seat in a heavily Democrat District against a sitting Congressman, so he has proven that he can win as a conservative.
So, I say to you, as a Reagan Republican, I will vote for Duncan Hunter and work to put him in the White House 2008. Please take time to give Duncan Hunter another look, as I did. There is much work to be done. Time is short. Let’s begin - in earnest - and may God Bless our efforts.
PS:
I invite you to join the Duncan Hunter team for America at http://www.gohunter08.com/index.asp and help put him in the White House in 2008. I ask you to donate all you can for America and Freedom, donate to the candidacy of Duncan Hunter.
Respectfully,
Russell M. Scott
