microwave bacon cooker 001

I knew this thing was coming and had actually expected it prior to Christmas but I finally received my microwave bacon cooker in the mail the other day. It's for a review I'm writing (this one, duh...) and I have been pretty busy the last couple of days or would have already had it written. Kind of looks like a drink picture, doesn't it. It's actually pretty cool

The Marine and I went out earlier this evening to purchase bacon and some other stuff. Since I am rarely at home for breakfast with the family (and today was no exception with the snow) I thought it would be a great time for pancakes. Nice and easy to fix.

microwave bacon cooker 002 This thing is actually pretty cool. It's the only totally enclosed unit on the market that I know of and is a pretty innovative invention. The thing you see the bacon hanging out all over sits down inside the cup, but off the bottom so that the grease and water have a place to go and the lid snaps down with those black things.

The instructions say to try it for 30 seconds in a 1000 watt oven. I am going to assume that  1000 watt ovens must be closer to commercial grade because mine took closer to two minutes to cook up six slices nice and crispy. The girls were certainly happy to see it because it gave them something to munch on while I cooked the rest of dinner.

Overall I like the thing. It's just the thing to fix up a small snack or meal for two without making a huge bacon grease mess. I ended up using my griddle tonight anyway. For one thing I was making pancakes and I was also cooking the microwave bacon cooker 004 entire pack of bacon as well. This thing is pretty nice for one or two people but if you are in a rush and have six or seven people to feed, use a grill.

It cooks up nice and crispy and left no mess whatsoever in the microwave, which was very cool. One other thing that I noticed once I finished cooking everything up on the griddle is that although I normally drain my bacon on paper towels while the rest of breakfast is cooking, there was much less grease using the microwave bacon cooker because as the water is cooked out of the bacon everything goes into the bottom of the cup. I hate nasty greasy bacon, so that was one other plus I found about the unit. Not only that but normally if you are cooking bacon up in the frying pan there are usually at least one or two overly crispy spots that may have gotten too done. I didn't notice a single bit of over-doneness on any of the bacon that I cooked in this thing.

(thanks to Pete and RePete for being my bacon testers and holders so that I could take the pics...)
