I don't know about the town part but we had a pretty good time. The wife and I along with Michelle, made the trek in to Atlanta in Mickey Mouse's Hearse to meet up with a few other bloggers at the Mellow Mushroom near Oglethorpe University.
We spent a couple of hours involved conversing with several different folks including Kelly and the Senior Chief, Denny, John Cox, Zonker (the non-blogging blogger), Velociman and Key, as well as the inestimable Elisson. He couldn't have spoken more than 100 words all night...After awhile the Velocisister showed up with...I think his name is Steve. Hell if I know. I suck at names. That's why I carry a DayTimer in my pocket, so that I can write this stuff down.
Nothing particularly serious was discussed but we always have a great time. It was last fall the last time we got together so it was really nice seeing everyone.
We did discuss a couple of possible future get-together's. Dinner is usually somewhat easy for me to come to but the weekend things are pretty much hit and miss. I do have my third vacation set up for some time in October so hopefully that will be the same weekend we do Helen this year and I am also planning a trip to the Ren Fest again this year. It's not real accessible for everyone but I will post something else about it once I put together my itinerary for work and figure out what weekend I am off. At the very least I start my vacation May 28th so I know that the last weekend will be good.
I sure do hate having to make plans so far in the future but it's just one of those things I suppose.
I do have incriminating evidence but will only post this one since I don't currently have permission from the rest of the usual suspects...
The wife's going to kick my ass for posting that one. Don't worry, it'll only be on the main page for a day or two and it's one of the few that only have us in it.
We managed to get back to Temple around 11:30 last night, so it was a pretty early evening. Hell, I'm a light-weight now so 11:30 seems like it's the middle of the night for me anyway. We picked the girls up from the baby-sitter and all hit the sack. I woke up several times last night. I had a serious case of cotton mouth around 4 this morning and ended up getting out of bed for some reason. The five-year-old had gone to bed with us and I suppose she was already getting hot by then, which may be what woke me up.
She's been in bed with a fever most of the day and we've been trying to make sure and take care of whatever she needs. I hate being sick and always feel like crap when I'm running a fever so I know how she feels.
The older girl has been throwing a fit the last couple of days and I am having a real hard time knowing how to fix it. I have been reading since before kindergarten and all through school I was usually reading five to ten years beyond my reading level. Books have always been one of my great loves. She dislikes reading and will try anything to get out of it. She's smart as a whip and normally has straight 'A's and high testing scores, she just doesn't like reading.
She has a project for school and she should have already been finished reading the book for it. Over the last four days she has made so many excuses and told so many lies about it that I am starting to get really pissed off. At first she made it sound as if one of her friends had suckered her into reading this one particular book called "The Giver" and I was going to call her teacher and insist that he change it to something else.
It ends up sounding like she is trying to make him think she can't do the work because she wants to get out of it and supposedly he made the comment that he might put her in another reading class. The wife is supposed to call him tomorrow and get all this straightened out. Fuck if she is going to get moved or quit a project just because she's being lazy. She'll get pulled out of drama or chorus before I will change anything about the classes she needs. That or do away with TV completely.
Kids can be so funny sometimes. If she had expended half the energy just reading this book that she has used in trying to get out of it she would have been finished a week ago.
