As much of a proponent as I am of stopping illegal immigration, I happen to agree with most of the landowners in Texas along the Rio Grande.
Michael Chertoff, the Director of Homeland Security, thinks that the 370 miles of fence that they plan to get built by the end of 2008 will help to stop the flow of illegal immigration into this country. I just don't see that shit happening myself. He also said that new border crossing rules go into effect this month that will mean longer lines for those entering the U.S. but are necessary to prevent another terrorist attack (not only that but you have to look like you are doing something in order to keep your job)
Take Arizona for instance. What's stopping it there and why are illegal immigrants deporting themselves in droves? Simple, Arizona is starting to enforce their existing laws and has passed some really tough new laws that make it much harder for employers to hire and keep working illegal immigrants. If faced with the choice of no job here and no job back home with their family, they are going back home.
Perhaps some of the other states need to follow Arizona's lead and start enforcing the already existing laws that are on the books and chase these folks back to their country of origin and then they can go through the process of legally immigrating here.
Richard Cortez, the mayor of the border town of McAllen Texas calls the fence a multi-million dollar speedbump and believes that hiring more border patrol agents, deepening the Rio Grande and clearing it's banks of tall vegetation would provide better border protection than the fence. Not only that but it would provide more jobs for hard working American citizens.
The justice department started taking legal action this week against landowners and towns that have refused to give government surveyors access to their land. Big Brother at his best I suppose. The landowners say that they will not be intimidated. In some cases, such as Eloisa Tamez, the land has been in people's families since before the United States even existed. Tamez family received their land in a grant from the Spanish Government in 1767. I realize that doesn't have a hill of beans to do with ours, but our country and constitution is all about life, liberty and property and we are pulling out one of the three legs that the constitution stands upon by letting the federal government with it's mommy mentality just take and take and take.
But then again, those of us that are sheep that keep crying for our mommy to take care of us are the ones that are responsible for letting it happen. Can't find a job? The government will take care of you. Can't afford healthcare? The government will take care of you. Don't want to stand up and be a man and take responsibility for your financial decisions? That's OK, Mommy government will take care of you and it's just going to get worse because we are getting ready to elect the Hildabeast to the Presidency of the United States and if you think Government with it's Big Brother attitude is bad under Bush, wait until you get a load of what it's going to look like under someone that has no respect whatsoever for the common man.
Kind of got off track there for a minute I guess. It's true though. I think that no matter how many of us don't want to see Hillary Clinton in office, she is going to get elected and it will be one of the worst presidencies in quite some time.
