Today is the day for the Iowa caucuses and the candidates were out in force up until he wee hours last night campaigning across the state in order to see who will be on top after this first day in beginning of what is bound to be an ugly campaign year.
There aren't any real front runners at all and the favorites in the state are pretty much for grabs. Some of the candidates are laying low though. Rudy Giuliani, according to this CNN report, is skipping Iowa and trying to focus on February 5th when 20+ states have their nominating contests. Even though John McCain is pretty much staking his campaign on New Hampshire he did return to Iowa last night for a bit of last minute campaigning.
Right now I agree with CNN in the fact that Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter both need very strong showings in Iowa if they are to continue with their campaigns.
It's such a close race right now that even though traditionally only three candidates are still around to reach New Hampshire, it's pretty likely that there will be more than that when they head to the northeast tonight.
