I wrote a while back about the Zemanta plugin for Firefox (and Flock!) that I had been using with my blogging. It's really nice. The problem is that I have been using Google Chrome because it uses much less memory than IE and Firefox and Zemanta doesn't offer a plugin for Chrome.

I downloaded the MT plugin a few weeks ago but it seemed to operate very hit and miss. I could only get the Zemanta sidebar to show up once every eight or nine times I wrote a post and it got to be more of a pain in the ass than it was worth, so I disabled it.

I found out this evening that they have recently updated the service as well as the plugin and thus far it's working flawlessly and I have re-enabled it in the MT interface, which I have taken to using when blogging over the offline writing I was doing previously.

If you aren't familiar with Zemanta it sticks in a sidebar in most blogging platforms (including MySpace and Blogger) if you are using the extension or plugin that allows you to pick out related entries (like the ones listed below) as well as images like the one at the top of the post. You can now also have it update the list from your favorite sites, your flickr page and any other web source you can think of. I have come across new stories and stuff to write about a few times just from coming across cool related articles. They aren't always 100% accurate but as you can see from the list at the bottom of my post they are pretty close.

Zemanta also suggest links based on keywords in your post. All of the links above were suggested and in many cases it will offer you choices between the home page, wiki entry or map depending on what you are linking to. It also suggests tags or keywords for the entry as well, based upong what you have been typing. Over all it's a pretty handy plugin to have and I have really come to rely on it over the last couple of months.
