I've been remiss in posting regularly in ABC Wednesday. I really like this meme and know that to participate I probably need to sit down ahead of time but I don't and then I get busy on Wednesday and forget all about it or just don't have the time. Thus I sit here on Saturday evening and am scheduling this...

Anyway, we are already up to the letter "Y"

I've been having so much fun in my garden this year so today Y is for Yellow...

This lily sits in a pot in my front yard...

And this wonderful shrimp plant that I just put in this year is on the side, near the end of my driveway.

Next week is the letter "Z". Last one of the alphabet and it's a hard one. Hopefully between now and then I can come up with some photos to post...

I'm sort of sorry I wasn't able to participate in last week's edition of ABC Wednesday. I was extremely busy with work and we were trying to get the house ready for company this past weekend. Anyway, last week we were on the letter "P" so this week we should be on "R" and around here "R" is for RePete!. It's also the first letter in her real name which some of you know.

I've posted this photo from my cell phone before but I never seem to get tired of it.

Ruth at the Fall Festival

The reason that I picked RePete for the subject of the letter "R" is because today RePete graduates from Pre-K. It's a big deal for her and she is deathly afraid of going to Kindergarten. Graduation does mean one thing though and that is she only has one more week until we go to Disney World. Next Wednesday we start our vacation.

Speaking of Disney...

..."R" can also be for Richard so I get to share in the fun. This was taken on the train at the Magic Kingdom back in October of 2005. Almost three years have passed and while the girls had a blast when we went that year, I think that this year will be even more fun for them.

That's it for now. I'm taking my camera to the graduation so will add on to this post later in the afternoon if I have the chance.

While it may not be Wednesday in your part of the world anymore it still is here, just barely. Today is my 17th day of work (straight) and I just dragged my sore and tired butt home. I do get the next two days off provided all three of my managers show up for work, thank goodness.

This week we are up to the letter "P" and P is for...

The Redneck Riviera or Panama City!

It had been several years since I had been to Panama, so the changes down there amazed me when we took the kids in August of 2005.

Before the storm
And it stormed for awhile so we hung out at the hotel.

On the way home we had to stop and play a couple of rounds of putt-putt...

Anna the mermaid
But finally, like all good little mermaids we had to return home...

The quality of the photos isn't all that great, for some reason we were stuck with cell phones all weekend. I thought I had a bunch I took with my camera but apparently I burned them to CD and they are offline right now. It's really just the memories that these bring back anyway. The pictures don't have to be great because once I see them I remember what a great time we had.

Today's post is brought to you by the letter "O"!

Just for you kids I tried to think of some things that start with the letter "O" and I have been stumped.

First I thought about Orgasms.

No. Can't do that. Too many people might get offended.

Hey. How about Oral Sex?

Perhaps not. See above reasons.

We do have some old friends however (that may come as a surprise to some) that used to raise some of these guys...

ostrich.jpg

That's right! "O" is for Ostrich. I don't know about Ostriches in general but these guys were temperamental and ill-tempered to be around.

There for a while Ostrich farming/ranching seemed to be all the rage out here with different folks. I haven't really heard much about it in recent years but I suppose there are still ranchers that raise them. The hard part comes when you try to saddle one up and get on. They don't seem to like that...

That's what I get for waiting until the last minute to post this but I spent most of the last week working 15 hour days and then today after I left work I worked out at the gym and then came home to work in the yard until about 8:30 p.m., thus the short post. Perhaps next week I can sit down ahead of time like I do with some of the other stuff and post something somewhat original!

If you want to jump in and participate in ABC Wednesday head over to Mrsnesbitt's Place. This week's is already up for your perusal over there.

Wednesday must be meme day or something because there seem to several that I participate in on Wednesdays. When I remember anyway.

This week's post for ABC Wednesday is brought to you by the letter "N". What's "N" for? N is for Nassau because the trip is still fresh in my mind and I am ready to go back to the Caribbean and hang for awhile.

I took this shot on Potter's Cay. We went down there specifically for the conch salad. It was one long hot walk from downtown. Next time we're renting scooters or something.

Seagull

I don't particularly consider myself a good photographer but occasionally everyone gets lucky. I really like that shot.

This one sort of shows the old and the new. That is a shot of Potter's Cay and behind it you can see the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island. We never did make it over to Paradise Island. I thought it was senseless to go over to sight see at some damned hotel and go shopping when there was plenty to do right in Nassau with a lot more colorful people as well.

We had a wonderful weekend in the Bahamas and hopefully we can return again soon. I would like to go for longer but as long as it's with the girls, going to the beach means going local to me. I just don't see the sense of dragging them out of the country when they won't even notice the difference.

I got this next one while we were wandering down one of the side streets downtown.

Nassau, Bahamas 042

There was some old dude playing the organ for tips right around there as well...Ahh there he is. Took me a minute to find the picture. He had himself a nice sunny spot to play in and was having a pretty good time of it. Looks like he was set up for the long haul though.

This is the Straw Market. You seen one flea market you seen 'em all right?

Nassau, Bahamas 025

Maybe, maybe not. They certainly had a ton of stuff at great duty free prices as well. There were probably 100 different "stalls" or "stores" but most of the stuff seemed to be the same. There was a pretty good choice of stuff to buy but after you've looked at a couple hundred shirts, hats and purses it's time to move on to something else...

Like the Beach! This is Cable Beach, right outside of our hotel at 7a.m. or so on the day we were leaving.

I know I jumped into ABC Wednesday right in the middle of things, but what the heck! This week we are on the letter 'M"

"M" is for Marines and Marine Corps!

My son graduated from Parris Island this past September so we drove up and met my parents as well as my brother and his family. My father was also in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam years. He was in Vietnam when I was born.

It was pretty interesting being able to wander around the island and check out the huge amount of history and stories that are there. While I'm sure my son never wants to go back he will always appreciate the place and it's history. For my father, this was the first time back to Parris Island in forty years. What was interesting is that they were in the same barracks, possibly the same squad bay, only they were brand new back in the sixties.

I found a new photography meme to participate in on Wednesdays. Obviously from the title of the post it has something to do with the alphabet. Each week we post pics relating to objects that begin with a different letter of the alphabet. This week we are up to "L"

A bad shot from my cell phone. Don't worry, this isn't my normal breakfast, I only have this healthy one every other day :) Don't ask me what the heck I made with all these liquor bottles, but boy was it good!

This one is Lake Hartwell back in July of 1998. Sure was low at that point.
