Birmingham, Alabama is a little less than two hours west of me so it came as a surprise that I've been oblivious to the disappearance of 23-year-old Nadia Kersh (www.myspace.com/nadikagirl) two weeks ago.

Nadia works at a grocery store in the Birmingham area and left work on November 3rd on a lunch break (some of the stories I've read state that she left to pick up her one-year-old son from daycare) and never returned. Obviously when she hadn't picked him up by closing time the day care was getting worried and called law enforcement.

The next day her car was located in west Birmingham and her purse was found nearby on some railroad tracks. Birmingham police have questioned three men in the disappearance and they say that they do have a suspect but not enough evidence to actually know where Nadia is or what happened to her.

The police in Homewood, Alabama are asking for any help that can be given in the search for Nadia. Earlier today several volunteer search teams were out looking for any sign of her starting at about 9 this morning. There was no sign of Nadia but several items of interest were found.

Update - Police have identified a body found this morning as Erika Yancey. More at the bottom of the post.

Police were called to 2320 Dulles Station Boulevard on Monday, November 17 shortly after 9 a.m. to investigate suspicious circumstances. The property manager of Camden Dulles Station reported finding what appeared to be a trail of blood leading from the parking lot to a dumpster.

An investigation led detectives to determine that a resident of the apartment complex was missing.

Police are asking the public for their assistance in locating Erika Yancey, a 22-year-old, black female. She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 125 pounds. She has short, dark hair, possibly with blonde highlights. She might be wearing a navy blue and gray, American Eagle sweatshirt and gray JB sweatpants.

Colorado issued an Amber Alert yesterday for 15-year-old Kanyon Nicely who went missing at some point Monday night/Tuesday morning in the town of Pagosa Springs where she lives. She is believed to be with 20-year-old Travis Lee Farmer and headed to Mexico.

The two may be traveling south, possibly to Mexico in a white Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel pickup truck with Colorado license plates 534-LZA. The truck has signs for PAP (Precision Asphalt Paving) on both driver's and passenger side doors. It has an extended cab as well as a 100-gallon fuel tank in the bed. Due to the fact that it has the extra tank authorities believe that they could make it to Mexico without stopping. As of today the Amber Alert has been canceled but law enforcement is treating this as a kidnapping due to the fact that Kanyon is only 15.

Updates at the bottom of the post.

Something in this case just isn't right and I can't put my finger on it right now. The most important thing about right now is that a mother and her toddler are missing and need to be found.

Benito Cervantes Mena was out of town in New Mexico and received a call on Friday morning from an unidentified man demanding what some news sites claim was $100,000. According to the caller Mena's wife and three-year-old daughter had been abducted and the only way to get them back was to pay up. Rather than call police Mena just went home where he found the house broken in to and robbed. According to several of the reports I have read Liliana Beatrice Iboa and her daughter Karen Bianay Cervantes have been missing for several days. Mena called police on Friday night and said that he didn't report it sooner because he was afriad that his family would be harmed.

The police are not referring to Mena as a suspect or lead in the case which may or may not be just what they are currently telling the media.

Thumbnail image for Taylor Meyer.jpgUpdated - Although the final cause of death has not been determined the medical examiner has ruled that the available evidence is consistent with drowning. They also said that no evidence had been found to suggest trauma or foul play in her death.

Just got home or I might have updated this earlier.  Shortly before 11 this morning the body of the 17-year-old senior and King Philip Regional High School was found in a swampy muddy area at the Norfolk air strip a couple hundred feet from where she had been last seen.

The Norfolk DA held a press conference during lunch and said that there are no signs of trauma but that there will be an autopsy to determine the ultimate cause of death.

Judging from the fact that the kids were drunk and her friends said that she might have wandered off, I am wondering if this is going to end up an accidental death.

Update - Taylor Meyer's body was found late morning near where she was last seen. Update here.

I just came across this post at True Crime Report and wanted to repost it.

Taylor Meyer attended a party on the Airport Strip in Norfolk Massachusetts on Friday evening and hasn't been seen since. There is a small airstrip off of River Rd that the kids apparently party at (or near). Before anyone starts asking why they were at an airstrip, teenager in small towns tend to congregate anyplace that they can where they won't be disturbed and judging from the map this would have been the perfect place to hang out and drink.

Taylor is from Plainville, a few miles south of Norfolk, is a senior at King Philip High School, is 5'8" 150 lbs, has blonde hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt with an A and F on the front and brown shoes. If you've seen Taylor please contact the Norfolk Police Department at 508-528-3206

There is nothing online yet that I can link to but I just received an Amber Alert bulletin for Covington, Georgia (east of me) for a Hispanic nale about 5'7" driving a 2003 White Ford F250 with tag #ASI6615. There are two children, a boy 3 and a girl of 6. If you have any information call 770-784-2100

I am getting ready to leave for work so if any more information is released or the alert canceled, leave it in the comments for me.

Jennifer Kesse disappeared two and a half years ago from the Orlando area and the investigation continues. The Orlando Police Department has decided to assign a full-time investigator to the case again. According to the local FOX channel in Orlando they have had over 950 leads since she disappeared in January of 2006. Here's the wikipedia article about Jennifer...

Jennifer Joyce Kesse (born May 20, 1981) is a woman who lived in Orlando, Florida, and has been missing since January 24, 2006.
A graduate of Vivian Gaither High School in Tampa, Kesse attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando, graduating in 2003 with a degree in finance. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority; her former sorority sisters have led many searches to find Kesse.

When she disappeared, Kesse had relocated permanently to Orlando. She was working at Central Florida Investments Timeshare Company in nearby Ocoee and recently bought a condominium, where she was believed to be last seen. She was expected to come into work on January 24, but never showed up. On January 26, Orlando police found her Chevy Malibu in an apartment complex about one mile from her residence.

Orlando police have released few clues publicly in the case, but have photos of a "person of interest" with whom they would like to speak. The person is seen in frames from a security video at the complex where Kesse's car was found. The frames were taken the day Kesse was reported missing. The FBI was called in to help determine the person's size and gender, but could only say the person was someone who was about 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5.

Police also said at a February 21 news conference that they believe someone other than Kesse drove her car to the complex where it was found. They have not called the "person of interest" a suspect, but only say he or she is someone who was in the area when the car was dropped off.

The reward for information leading to her recovery was $115,000. An anonymous donor, however, set a deadline of March 19, 2006 for $100,000 of the reward, which would only have been given for the safe return of Kesse. The $15,000 remains available through Central Florida Crimeline.

The missing woman has received national press attention in the United States, first by news reports in her home state of Florida, then by national exposure on Good Morning America on February 8. Over 1,000 people helped in a search party which first met at the Mall at Millenia southwest of downtown. On February 13, Greta Van Susteren, on her FOX News show, interviewed Kesse's parents with John Walsh from America's Most Wanted. As a result of the exposure, Kesse's story is now on the America's Most Wanted website, which broadcast the case in mid-February 2006.

In August of 2007, it was reported that her photo (which had been extensively distributed) was being used on dating websites.

On April 3, 2008, the Orlando Police Department released two new photos: one showing Jennifer Kesse's four-leaf clover tattoo (which is on her left hip just below her bikini line, about the size of a quarter) and a brown purse that she was believed to be carrying when she was abducted.

On Friday, May 2, 2008, The Florida House of Representatives unanimously passed Senate Bill 502 - "The Jennifer Kesse and Tiffany Sessions Missing Persons Act". It is now on the way to the Governor's desk for his signature. This Act was the direct result of the Kesse and Sessions Families working with Florida lawmakers to ensure that the missing persons laws in Florida are enhanced.

On Tuesday, July 1, 2008, the television series 48 Hours Mystery had a special episode featuring Jennifer Kesse's case. The episode was entitled "Vanished".

Jennifer Kesse is still considered missing and endangered by Orlando Police, FBI, Orange County, Florida Police, FDLE, NCIC and NCMA. The person of interest has now been made into a prime suspect with the release of video captured the day of Jennifer's disappearance of that person driving her car, parking it, getting out and walking away, never looking back. The car was parked in the Huntington on The Green condominiums visitor's parking lot.

Full details can be found at FindJenniferKesse.com. There is still a $10,000 reward from the family on the idenity and whereabouts of the Prime Suspect as well as a $15,000 reward from Crimeline in Orlando for information leading to Jennifer's whereabouts. The Kesse Family tip line, which the Family owns and retrieves tips from daily, is 407-722-2162 and the Crimeline number is 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).

(NECN/ABC) - A Massachusetts father accused of kidnapping his seven year old daughter is in police custody this weekend.

Clark Rockefeller was arrested by FBI agents in Maryland on Saturday.

His daughter, Reigh was also found safe and will be returned to her mother.

ABC News reporter Sharyn Alfonsi has more on the story from Maryland.

I just came across the news report over at NECN a few minutes ago.

Clark Rockefeller kidnapped his seven-year-old daughter during a supervised visit last Sunday. His first visit as a matter of fact. Sandra Boss, Reigh's mother lives in London and has full custody of her daughter. The visitation was ordered to be supervised as part of the custody battle because she felt that he might try and abscond with his daughter. Obviously the mother was right about that one.

Police received an anonymous tip that he was keeping the girl in an apartment in Baltimore as well as a catamaran at a marina near the area. They tricked him into leaving the apartment by calling Rockefeller and told him his boat was taking on water. As soon as he left the building the FBI arrested him and found the daughter in the apartment.

Clark Rockefeller now faces charges of Felony Custodial Kidnapping and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

Becki Elshani from Colorado Springs, Colorado has been missing since last week. After police stopped by their apartment to check on her, her boyfriend Daniel Dereere apparently committed suicide by shooting himself this past Monday.

Family members from New York and Maryland have flown in to help in the search for Elshani but many now fear that they are just searching for her body.

"We're just going to go where people are leading and where they have a strong sense," Shpresi Elshani, Becki's sister, told KRDO. "We want answers, we want closure and we want to know where she is."

CNN's got the link to the story at KMGH up on their main page now, it won't be long before the news goes nationwide.
