I mentioned on Twitter last night that I had emailed both of my senators in hopes that if enough of us called and wrote that we might be able to change their minds on the bailout. I received a reply this morning, which is below. My comments are in bold. I still think the bill was a bad one and while I certainly don't understand all of the ramifications of huge economic issues like this I do understand what spending another $700 billion dollars is.

Dear Mr. Miles :

Thank you for contacting me regarding the turmoil in our financial markets and the actions taken by the United States Treasury as they pertain to several leading financial institutions. It is good to hear from you.

This is the most serious and critical domestic issue I have dealt with in my 14 years in Congress. We have been betrayed by many people and by abuse of the system. Now we have two significant choices to make - do nothing or take action. Taking stupid action might be worse than taking none at all.

I strongly believe that doing nothing will destroy the financial security of millions of Americans and possibly lead us into a depression. I just as strongly believe the bill as now negotiated will arrest the crisis and begin to turn our economy around. I have to disagree with this but then again I have debt as well. Perhaps if we as a country lived a cash existence for a couple of years we might learn to do it right.

The bill that I voted for is not a bailout. H.R. 1424, "The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act," is crafted to address the crisis; restore security for the American taxpayer; and return our nation to the strongest economic power in the world. And in the process this bill enables us to root out and punish those who cheated us all. Yes, it is a fucking bailout. While it might 'punish those who cheated' I doubt seriously that a damn thing will happen to the politicians who made it happen on BOTH sides of the aisle since the Carter Administration.

I know that my vote in favor of this package was not the politically popular thing to do, but this is not a popularity contest.  This is about the future of our country and the future that my children and grandchildren will inherit.  I have absolutely no doubt in my mind or my heart that my vote in support of this measure was the right thing for our economy, for Georgians, and for our country. I do believe that in your heart you thought you were doing the right thing but I seriously can't believe you aren't in a popularity contest with the rest of the guys up there that are scrambling to keep their jobs now.

My first reaction was one of anger and frustration. How could this happen in the strongest economy in the world? How could the best financial system in the world fail? After calming down, I realized the seriousness of the situation and the consequences of Congress failing to act. Good, I am angry as well, angry that you helped us along this path along with your cronies.

The Treasury Department submitted a proposal to Congress requesting authority to purchase troubled assets from financial institutions. This program was intended to address the root cause of the market stresses by removing these assets from the financial system. Removing them from the financial system? They aren't being removed. They are being shifted out onto honest hard-working Americans. Here, have another shit sandwich folks.

I did not support the original proposal submitted by the Administration because it did not address the critical needs of the American taxpayer, community banks, retirees, and small businesses and it concentrated too much power in a small group to administer the plan. And this pile of steaming shit does?

As the conversations in Washington and across the nation continued over how to address the challenge before us and as the details of the problems in our financial sector were revealed daily, I became convinced that something had to be done and done soon.

Moreover, when the House rejected the plan, the economy suffered a $1.2 trillion dollar blow in the stock market, which only made more apparent the impact this credit crunch is having on Main Street . Specifically, in some cases, Georgia community banks are unable to make auto loans. Perhaps they need to stop making the loans and let people purchase what they can actually pay for. The reason that the economy suffered a blow is because the people on Wall Street freaked out. I invest for the long term myself and can suffer a temporary setback which is exactly what the rest of the investors need to be doing as well. Fuck the people that can't get auto loans. There are enough used cars out there that they shouldn't suffer. Perhaps they should try walking to work, particularly in light of the fact that we can't get gas in Georgia right now anyway.

Below are details of the legislation:

TAXPAYERS ARE PROTECTED. In its current form, the legislation before the Senate protects taxpayers in many ways. Accountability, safeguards, and oversight measures are numerous. There will be transparency, public reports, and triggers to end the program if, for some reason, it is not effective or end the program early if it is more successful. Moreover, I worked to negotiate a mechanism to stop all transfers of taxpayer funds if necessary. That said , I believe this legislation will be effective. What safeguards? Exactly. Accountable to whom? What mechanism? Details please.

NOT A BLANK CHECK. I opposed the President's initial request to simply give a blank check to Secretary Paulson. I also opposed the second version submitted by the President and Congressional Democrats that would have given taxpayer money to liberal groups such as ACORN. Let me be clear - this current bill, the bill in the Senate, is not a blank check for anyone. First, it allows the release of $250 billion to purchase these toxic loans. Then, Congress can release another $100 billion but only with Presidential involvement and certification that it is necessary. And only if absolutely necessary and again with Presidential certification and Congressional approval, the remaining $350 billion could be released. However, I do not believe the entire $700 billion authorized will be necessary or used. If private investors don't want to purchase these 'toxic loans' what in your right minds makes you think it's a good idea for the government to do so? Let the banks sell them on the county courthouse steps. You say that you don't believe the entire $700 billion won't be necessary. When did a government agency ever NOT use the entire amount of money granted to them. I say that $700 billion won't be enough and some time next year the Treasury Secretary will be begging for more.

NO GOLDEN PARACHUTES. CEOs and other executive officers who drove their companies into the ground will not be able to walk away with millions leaving taxpayers holding the bill. Those companies that choose to participate in the program will be subject to strict compensation limits. No Golden Parachutes? Most of them already have their golden parachutes. Is the Federal Government going to prosecute them, freeze their assets and take back the billions of dollars that have already been taken?

NO NEW GOVERNMENT SPENDING. The language is clear - all revenue generated through the repayment of any assets purchased and any sold must be used to pay down the national debt. No money will go to pork projects, new government spending, or liberal groups such as ACORN.  What guarantee do we have that ANY money will be made from these toxic properties?

HELP FOR MAIN STREET . As this crisis continues, community banks are being affected more and more. Car loans and home loans, even to those with good credit, are drying up. People are losing their retirement savings. Small businesses are now having difficulty getting loans to make payroll or grow their business to create new jobs. If we allow this to continue, jobs will be lost, more retirement accounts will be impacted, and credit will get even tighter. Loans to make payroll? They should be paying people above the bottom line, out of their profits. That's how you operate a GOOD business.

PUNISH CRIMINALS. The Federal Government is actively investigating cases of fraud and abuse. Where wrongdoing is found, the perpetrators, including, if implicated, members of Congress will be brought to justice. We have already seen subpoenas issued for records at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This bill demands cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and I expect we will see more subpoenas and criminal prosecution. Does this include all of the politicians and other assorted criminals that made it possible, like Barack Obama?

ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING CAUSE WHILE WE TREAT THE SYMPTOMS. We are seeing the symptoms now - lack of trust in the banking industry, daily tightening of the credit markets, losses in personal retirement accounts - and while this legislation addresses those issues, it also goes further to treat the cancer that got us here. This legislation authorizes the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to modify the 'mark to market' accounting procedures that magnified this crisis by forcing banks to mark down the value of assets they had no intention of selling in the near future. This mark down of value caused a corresponding loss of value to the institutions. The SEC has already begun the process to modify this procedure.

RETURN TRUST IN THE BANKS. By increasing the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) protection on bank accounts from the current $100,000 to $250,000, taxpayers and bank customers can once again trust that their money is safe in the bank of their choice.

DEBT REPAYMENT. Toxic loans will be purchased at a discount and 100% of the monies repaid to the government will go to reduce the debt we incur in this process. While we shouldn't expect full repayment, it is possible that all of the money expended will be repaid. Why shouldn't we expect full repayment?

PROTECT OUR NATIONAL SECURITY. If we do not act and this crisis spreads like a cancer to every segment of our economy, it will destroy not only taxpayer savings but it will erode our ability to fund our military, supply our troops with the resources they need, and protect our homeland. Oh, here we go. Tie it to National Security. Where exactly is the money coming from? Printing more money devalues the U.S. dollar and as far as I know we don't have the extra cash just lying around except for in the retirement accounts of the politicians and CEOs of these companies.

NO TIME FOR POLITICAL FINGER POINTING. There is plenty of blame to go around but now is not the time to throw stones, now is the time to address this crisis and get our economy moving again. NOW IS EXACTLY THE TIME FOR POLITICAL FINGER POINTING. We need to drive these assholes from both parties that caused this and elect more folks like Jim DeMint in the senate and Ron Paul in the House of Representatives.

FOR THE COUNTRY; NOT POLITICAL POPULARITY. This is not a popularity contest, this is a crisis. And since this crisis began, I have had numerous conversations with economists, community bankers, small business owners, and taxpayers. I have weighed the costs of inaction versus the costs of unpopular action. I support this bill because it is good for the country, it is the right thing to do today for taxpayers and tomorrow for my children and grandchildren, and it is necessary to get our economy moving again.

Strong capital markets are vital to a prosperous U.S. economy and given the renewed focus of our regulators and market participants, I remain confident in our financial markets and our overall economy.

However, history warns us against inaction by hard lessons learned. Delaying to act would be a repeat of the mistakes of the 1920s, when thousands of banks failed before significant confidence was restored to our financial markets.

Found this video via Denny...Watch it.

I already knew that McCain had tried to do something about it but here is my problem. He is going to support the Bailout vote. I don't know that I can vote for anyone that supports it. I won't go as far to say that he will lose my vote but I am damn sure considering it and I am 100% sure that if my Senator that is up for election, Saxby Chambliss votes for this socialist abortion I will be voting against him.

The video will tell you that deregulation didn't cause it. Well, that's only partly true. Allowing investment firms and banks to own each other did have a hand in it.

The roll call for the vote on the financial bail out has been released, you can find out here if you want to thank (or rail at) your congressman. I was glad to see that my representative, Phil Gingrey, voted against the measure.

I'll have to admit that I have NOT read the entirety of the bill but was against it in general because I don't feel that mortgaging my children's future to bail out some failed Wall Street businesses was in our best interest. Yes, it IS going to hurt in the short term but it will be worse down the road if any dog shit like this passes as a bill.

I received a letter via email today. From Ron Paul. Early on I was a supporter of Dr Paul in his run for the Presidency and while I don't espouse everything he stands for he damn sure made sense to me here:

Dear Friends:

The financial meltdown the economists of the Austrian School predicted has arrived.

We are in this crisis because of an excess of artificially created credit at the hands of the Federal Reserve System. The solution being proposed? More artificial credit by the Federal Reserve. No liquidation of bad debt and malinvestment is to be allowed. By doing more of the same, we will only continue and intensify the distortions in our economy - all the capital misallocation, all the malinvestment - and prevent the market's attempt to re-establish rational pricing of houses and other assets.

Last night the president addressed the nation about the financial crisis. There is no point in going through his remarks line by line, since I'd only be repeating what I've been saying over and over - not just for the past several days, but for years and even decades.

Still, at least a few observations are necessary.
The president assures us that his administration "is working with Congress to address the root cause behind much of the instability in our markets." Care to take a guess at whether the Federal Reserve and its money creation spree were even mentioned?

We are told that "low interest rates" led to excessive borrowing, but we are not told how these low interest rates came about. They were a deliberate policy of the Federal Reserve. As always, artificially low interest rates distort the market. Entrepreneurs engage in malinvestments - investments that do not make sense in light of current resource availability, that occur in more temporally remote stages of the capital structure than the pattern of consumer demand can support, and that would not have been made at all if the interest rate had been permitted to tell the truth instead of being toyed with by the Fed.

Not a word about any of that, of course, because Americans might then discover how the great wise men in Washington caused this great debacle. Better to keep scapegoating the mortgage industry or "wildcat capitalism" (as if we actually have a pure free market!).

Speaking about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the president said: "Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the market for questionable investments, and put our financial system at risk."

Doesn't that prove the foolishness of chartering Fannie and Freddie in the first place? Doesn't that suggest that maybe, just maybe, government may have contributed to this mess? And of course, by bailing out Fannie and Freddie, hasn't the federal government shown that the "many" who "believed they were guaranteed by the federal government" were in fact correct?

Then come the scare tactics. If we don't give dictatorial powers to the Treasury Secretary "the stock market would drop even more, which would reduce the value of your retirement account. The value of your home could plummet." Left unsaid, naturally, is that with the bailout and all the money and credit that must be produced out of thin air to fund it, the value of your retirement account will drop anyway, because the value of the dollar will suffer a precipitous decline. As for home prices, they are obviously much too high, and supply and demand cannot equilibrate if government insists on propping them up.

It's the same destructive strategy that government tried during the Great Depression: prop up prices at all costs. The Depression went on for over a decade. On the other hand, when liquidation was allowed to occur in the equally devastating downturn of 1921, the economy recovered within less than a year.

The president also tells us that Senators McCain and Obama will join him at the White House today in order to figure out how to get the bipartisan bailout passed. The two senators would do their country much more good if they stayed on the campaign trail debating who the bigger celebrity is, or whatever it is that occupies their attention these days.

F.A. Hayek won the Nobel Prize for showing how central banks' manipulation of interest rates creates the boom-bust cycle with which we are sadly familiar. In 1932, in the depths of the Great Depression, he described the foolish policies being pursued in his day - and which are being proposed, just as destructively, in our own:

Instead of furthering the inevitable liquidation of the maladjustments brought about by the boom during the last three years, all conceivable means have been used to prevent that readjustment from taking place; and one of these means, which has been repeatedly tried though without success, from the earliest to the most recent stages of depression, has been this deliberate policy of credit expansion.

To combat the depression by a forced credit expansion is to attempt to cure the evil by the very means which brought it about; because we are suffering from a misdirection of production, we want to create further misdirection - a procedure that can only lead to a much more severe crisis as soon as the credit expansion comes to an end... It is probably to this experiment, together with the attempts to prevent liquidation once the crisis had come, that we owe the exceptional severity and duration of the depression.

The only thing we learn from history, I am afraid, is that we do not learn from history.
The very people who have spent the past several years assuring us that the economy is fundamentally sound, and who themselves foolishly cheered the extension of all these novel kinds of mortgages, are the ones who now claim to be the experts who will restore prosperity! Just how spectacularly wrong, how utterly without a clue, does someone have to be before his expert status is called into question?
Oh, and did you notice that the bailout is now being called a "rescue plan"? I guess "bailout" wasn't sitting too well with the American people.
The very people who with somber faces tell us of their deep concern for the spread of democracy around the world are the ones most insistent on forcing a bill through Congress that the American people overwhelmingly oppose. The very fact that some of you seem to think you're supposed to have a voice in all this actually seems to annoy them.
I continue to urge you to contact your representatives and give them a piece of your mind. I myself am doing everything I can to promote the correct point of view on the crisis. Be sure also to educate yourselves on these subjects - the Campaign for Liberty blog is an excellent place to start. Read the posts, ask questions in the comment section, and learn.
H.G. Wells once said that civilization was in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.
In liberty,

 Ron Paul
Call your congressmen and women and let them know what pieces of crap they are for supporting this abomination and step toward communism. Somewhere around 30% of my wife's retirement is tied up in one of the companies and I still think that we just need to let them dig their own fucking way out of the mess.

I got an email about this from Stop the ACLU yesterday and after having received it I read the related stories and just started getting more and more pissed off. Normally schools have a policy of making kids change their clothes when they are found unacceptable. To most schools unacceptable means showing their midriff, tube tops, tank tops, rude, offensive or drug related sayings or photos. I assumed that what was referred to as a tie-dyed t-shirt must have fallen into one of the categories but after having seen the picture here it looks like none of the above. It actually looks pretty cool. If I wore tie-dyed stuff I would wear it in pride.

Officials at the Merced County school confirmed Thursday that Jake Shelly was forced to take off a red, white and blue tie-dyed American flag T-shirt on Tuesday. The shirt said nothing offensive, just: "United States of America, Washington, D.C."

The school's assistant principal issued Shelly a bright yellow T-shirt that read "DCV: Dress Code Violator" to wear for the rest of the day. He was given his shirt back after classes ended.

"It was really embarrassing and humiliating to have to wear that all day -- and just for supporting your country," his sister Kaycee Shelly said.

Kaycee Shelly told members of the media at lunchtime that her brother was overwhelmed and did not want to do any more interviews.

Earlier in the day, he was speaking with a local news station when an unidentified teacher walked up to him, ripped off the microphone clipped to his shirt and told him he was not allowed to talk to the media.

An assistant principal at the school felt that the shirt fell under a clause of the dress code having to do with promoting races and ethnicities. What a crock of shit.

So how many of you folks actually think that holding the Olympic Games in China was a good idea now?

Let's see...

1. For years now China has seriously oppressed the Chinese people economically, politically and religiously. The rioting and killing that took place relating to Tibet was a direct result of the way they have treated the folks there since they took back Tibet in 1951. Yeah, the Tibetans were rioting and killing folks so of course they had to crack down but you have to look at the deeper causes of it than a bunch of angry monks.

2. Two words. Tiananmen Square. According to the Chinese Red Cross somewhere between 2000-3000 people were killed in the government crackdown on the demonstrators. The 1989 protests are a forbidden topic in China. News of it completely disappeared from everything in China and people are not allowed to talk about it. Just this past week the Chinese police dragged Christians out of the square right in front of the media. Three Americans (of course we were the dumbass protesters) put on a protest on the edge of the square against religious repression as well as the abortionist policies that limit people to a single child. Now I don't have any problem with the population control. Judging from some of the dumb fuckers over here we could do with a little control. If I believed in the government doing those sorts of things I would be all for it. Since I hate government intrusion I will just have to be satisfied knowing that many of them will be up for the Darwin awards in future years. I don't particularly like Christian activists but they have every right to share their opinion. Anyway, to get back to the subject at hand, I think that a serious revolution akin to the French or Russian revolution is coming. It may take decades but China is going to burn from the inside if they aren't careful.

3. Pollution is rampant in China. They are becoming an extremely industrialized nation and have little control over emissions and pollution there. All of the damned idiots that are always complaining about our country and the pollution need to take a long visit to several other countries including China to see what it's like there. We have some of the strictest controls from the EPA of any country in the world.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the politics of China (I am assuming) but a Chinese man with a knife attacked an American couple in Beijing killing the man before jumping to his death off of the Drum Tower.

I've sort of lost my train of thought. I started out typing this prior to dinner and having eaten I am now brain dead. I went to bed around midnight last night and then was awakened by a call from one of my stores shortly after 1AM because they had an emergency and the manager wouldn't answer the fucking phone. I got back up around 5AM and finally dragged myself in to work so the rest of the day has seemed a blur.

Updated September 5th 2008 - Comments and trackbacks have been reopened.

I think that Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana said it best.

Do you want our government to have the ability to track where you went, how you went, how you got there and when you got home? It would be naïve for someone to think this information will not be abused in the future. Virtually every decade these kinds of files have been used to violate people's privacy.

Back in the nineties during the Clinton era a National ID was bandied around. As a matter of fact it snuck it's way into an appropriations bill but was subsequently dumped. Most folks I know hated the idea of a national ID and the possibilities that come along with it. I am afraid of what abuses might occur should the federal government have a clearing house where all of our information was readily available to anyone to abuse. Talk about serious identity theft.

Since 9/11 the REAL ID act has been slowly rolling out and people that would have considered it unthinkable a decade ago find it quite OK. What the fuck is up with that? Wasn't it Ben Franklin who said "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither"?

Over the last couple of years several states have started to oppose the REAL ID. For the most part it is because of financial and planning reasons but some of it is because our state governments feel that it is not in their best interest to be the policemen for the federal government in matters of taxes and social security.

Just as in the National ID stuff of the 90s that never made it to fruition the Real ID Act of 2005 was passed by Congress not as it's own standalone act but as part of the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, 2005 PL 109-13. It was basically snuck in as a stealth measure. Because of everything else the bill entailed Congress pretty much considered it a must-pass.

It doesn't just create a federal driver's license, it gives the information to the Department of Homeland Security and calls for the creation of databases of information on everyone. It makes the state DMVs spies for the federal government. There is nothing in our Constitution that gives any branch of the government this kind of power. So here's what happens when it goes into effect.

Without a Department of Homeland Security approved conversion of your driver's license into a Real ID you can't board an airplane, get a passport, enter federal buildings or do ANY kind of business withe the government of the United States.

What about some of our elderly folks that weren't born in hospitals and have no birth certificate? It's a real problem for some of them. Take James Scotts for example. He lives in New Jersey and they imposed a six point ID verification program to begin complying with the Real ID Act. He is 81 and was born at home in South Carolina. Scott, a former WWII veteran brought his photo-id issued by Passaic County and his social security card in to renew his license and since he didn't have a recent passport or birth certificate they wouldn't renew his driver's license. It's now expired and he can't drive.

There is also the possibility of RFID chips being embedded into the Real ID cards. With those suckers you can track anything, anywhere. Fuck that noise.

Last year my state (Georgia) passed a bill allowing the state to delay implementation of the Real ID until protections can be established that guarantee the economic privacy and biological sanctity of Georgia Residents. Hopefully that will never happen and we will just keep on putting the Federal government off.

Everyone's favorite pork barrel U.S. Senator from Alaska; you know, they guy that wanted the bridge to nowhere, has been indicted on charges that he concealed hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts and services from a company in Alaska.

Say it isn't so...

Veco is an energy company based out of Alaska and he has intervened before on their behalf in congress. Apparently they have done hundreds of thousands of $$$ worth of work to his house and he tried to conceal that fact. Naughty, naughty...

He has been charged with seven counts of making false statements on his Senate financial disclosure forms and he is denying the charges. According to Senator Stevens "I have never knowingly submitted a false disclosure form by law as a U.S. senator" And in other news monkeys are going to fly out of my ass any time...

Oh, by the way, the CEO of Veco pled guilty in 2007 to paying out more than $400,000 in payments to Alaskan officials according to the Department of Justice. As part of his plea he is cooperating with the DOJ.

If you will remember, I posted last year about the joint FBI and IRS raid on his home in which two oil company executives and a state lobbyist have later been charged.

Stevens is the longest serving Republican Senator and I think it's about time to get his old ass out of the senate.

So the deficit is growing. That's pretty much a no-brainer or at least it should be. Major expenditures on all kinds of crap that the government shouldn't even be involved with as well as the so-called "stimulus package". What the fuck did you people think would happen, the stimulus fairy was going to stick her finger up her ass and magically deposit checks on your pillow?

The part of the title that says "Bush Administration Projects..." is sort of misleading. You can't pin the whole thing on George Bush's adminstration. It belongs wholly in the lap of all of the lawmakers that voted for it, whether it be because they are up for reelection this year or maybe they just rode the short bus to capitol hill that day.

What you guys need to remember on election day is all of the stupid fucks, most of which have small fortunes and a great retirement, that voted for this and throw them out of office.

LOS ANGELES - JANUARY 27: Jael Phelps a membe...

Image by Getty Images via Daylife

I am pretty much disgusted with the Westboro Baptist So-Called Church. These bigoted haters have picked Tony Snow's funeral to picket. Whether you are a conservative and respect him or a liberal who didn't like him I think that everyone can agree that picketing someone's funeral is just in really bad taste. Thanks for Stop the ACLU for passing on this story.

Dear God, please let the Patriot Guard Riders know about this ahead of time. The Phelps gang is ready to strike, and they outline their intent here.

Please pass this along to all who can get the word out so we can stop these fools. According to their site, this is when it's going to happen and why:

Read More at Ms.Underestimated

While Snow isn't military (although he might have been at one time, I really don't know) I also hope the Patriot Guard is out in force for this. I am certainly against censorship so this church of evil misguided inbred morons has every right to say what they want but they certainly don't have the right to preach their crap to people that don't want to hear it.

Phelps has released a video on YouTube that is pretty nasty as well.

So the Westboro Baptist Church of Latter Day Retards has a web site as well and on the web site they have itineraries of upcoming protests. Here's what they have to say about Tony Snow:

Christ Episcopal Church (Lepor Colony) 118 N. Washington St. Tony Snow (Press Secretary for 6 "B" George W. Bush) is dead, YES! He had a platform, he was given some small talent by his creator. He was an unfaithful steward, and is now residing in hell. Each opportunity he had to faithfully REport what the servants at WBC had to tell this country/world, Tony Snow besmerched and vilified the words of God and the people of God. Thereby being a party to the crime of passing laws to make the preaching of the gospel to this adulterous and sinful generation = criminal activity. That is a very bad monkey! This is what the Lord Jesus Christ said about hypocritical heretical "scribes": Matthew 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows? houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Matthew 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. Matthew 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Matthew 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Matthew 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men?s bones, and of all uncleanness. Matthew 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, Luke 11:44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. You see there is nothing worse than a scribe who has gone away from their primary duty to faithfully report the facts as they ARE! And how appropriate that this brute, vain beast of a brat was raised Catholic, but then determined like his forefathers that oops! he'd rather be a filthy Episcopalian, instead. God hates Tony Snow, and that is why he is now burning in hell.
So it's obvious that their webmaster needs a dictionary as well as a grammar textbook by his side as he posts this. It's usually helpful to know how to spell things like "lepers" and "sepulchers" when you are ranting and raving like a religious lunatic. Not that I am the Earl of Grammar or anything but DAMN!

I don't personally believe that there is a god but let's say for the sake of the argument that the old dude with a beard is hanging out in the sky with E.T. He wouldn't send Phelps and his family to hell for their sins. Oh, NO. He would be wiping his ass with king sized dookie swabs from the Westboro Bastard Chuirch.

We've been hearing about the debate for years actually. President Bush used his weekly radio address to call for more drilling here at home.

There are folks in Congress as well as the media that say it would be too hard or we couldn't produce enough to make a difference. Too hard? This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. At least it used to be. Now it's a nation of pussies and people smitten with the mommy syndrome. Sorry folks, you can't get everything taken care of at the local Wal-Mart and welfare office. Sometimes you have to pull your ass up by the bootstraps and get it moving.

If we didn't do things because they were too hard the country would belong to the Japanese Empire right now or never would have succesfully become independent from England.

Everyone wants a fucking handout and the pussies in office are so scared to do anything different that might endanger their meal ticket that they aren't willing to take a chance.

The only racist I see in this whole story is Dallas, Texas Commissioner john Wiley Price. Thanks to GuyK for the link to this story over at FOX.

Basically they were having a county commissioner's meeting on traffic tickets an one of the commissioners made the statement

"It sounds like Central Collections has become a black hole"

Pretty innocuous statement actually. Only a race baiting bastard like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton would find this a racist remark. of course John Wiley Price, who is black, said that type of language is unacceptable. WTF? Quit speaking in Ebonics and learn to speak a bit of proper english and you might learn what the reference to a black hole is. Another black official demanded an apology.

Bwahaha.

DAVOS/SWITZERLAND, 26JAN08 - Manouchehr Mottak...

I just came across a post at Global Voices by way of ValleyWag that actually prompted me to post a link to it and something other than the weekly memes and tweets coming out of my asshole.

Apparently Iran's Parliament voted to discuss a draft bill that effects bloggers over there:

On Wednesday, Iranian members of parliament voted to discuss a draft bill that seeks to "toughen punishment for disturbing mental security in society." The text of the bill would add, "establishing websites and weblogs promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy," to the list of crimes punishable by death.

Holy crap! Death for blogging? Now don't get me wrong, 99% of blogs are garbage and crap and I don't even exclude myself from that number but I don't think anyone should be killed over it. Flogged or maybe even ass-fucked by angry orangutans but not death. Christ, that's so irreversible.

About 18 months ago Iran ordered all bloggers to register their web sites, names and addresses on a state run site called Samandehi. At the time quite a few of them rightly believed that doing so would initiate legal action against them.

The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran has an English copy of the proposed legislation for your perusal should you want to head over and check it out. (thanks to BoingBoing for the link)

PRI's The World Podcast with correspondent Cyrus Farivar reports on the legislation.

On a semi-related (only because it deals with Iran) note, the AP had an interview on Wednesday with Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki who dismissed talk of an attack by the U.S or Israel. Personally I think we just need to skip all of this talk about attacks and whatnot, just bring our soldiers home and nuke the fucking place. Turn Iran, Afghanistan and Iraq into big-assed glass paperweights, drill for our own fucking oil right here at home and let the damned towelheads that are left fight it out with clubs and rocks.

Victory is still possible in the fight against warrantless spying and immunity for the telecom companies that collaborated in previous illegal spying. Just this morning the Politico reports that . . .

Senate leaders may split the warrantless spying and immunity provisions into two separate bills, and hold two separate votes.

This is a sign of significant divisions in the Senate that we may yet be able to exploit to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304.

The divisions are deep enough that there still isn't a Senate version of the House bill, or a bill number. And there are still multiple ways we could win this fight.

One strategy is to find a Senator willing to filibuster, and thereby block a vote.

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann reported last night that there's pressure on Presidential candidate and Senator Barak Obama to filibuster -- to show he can lead his party and stand up to the Republicans. Senators Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold have stated strong opposition to this bill and are also strong potential candidates to filibuster.

Toward this end we've changed the message to the Senate on our old campaign against the "Protect America Act", to read as follows . . .

"Please do everything you can to defeat the Senate version of HR 6304, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008. Please use your power to filibuster."

Please send this message now, with your personalizing comments added.

You can use your personal comments to point out that HR 6304 violates the 4th Amendment, and that your Senators swore an oath to defend the Constitution.

Many Senators are opposed to this bill. If we can encourage just one to filibuster then we'll only need 41 votes to defeat the bill. We believe the three Senators we've listed in this message are the best candidates to do so. But every Senator needs to be contacted.

The possibility of victory by filibuster, combined with the urgency of this situation, means that once again, we encourage you to call your Senators. Once you're logged-in to send your message, you'll see their office phone number. Please call today.

Remember, we were in a similar position with this issue back in Fall 2006, and again in February this year -- defeat seemed certain -- but we ended up pulling out a victory. Now, in the space of just 24 hours, we've gone from expecting an immediate vote to having the Senate leadership contemplate splitting the bill into two parts.

Victory is still possible, and the filibuster is a powerful weapon we could use to achieve that victory. Ask, and you may receive.

Tell your Senators to filibuster. Give the pro-Constitution forces courage, and make the anti-Constitution Senators nervous.

Send a message!

Then call.

Also, please also help us make budget this month. There are only 6 days left, and we need just $1,509 to earn a $3,600 matching pledge AND make budget. We have no one else to ask but you. You can contribute here.

So I'm reading this article about the April job losses that the Labor Department released recently. Something like 20k jobs. In the month of May there were around 50,000 jobs lost. I am hearing reports that the 5.5% unemployment rate is dismal.

Exactly what the fuck did you expect when you allowed the leeching blood-sucking vampires in the Federal Government to increase the minimum wage. When small businesses are forced to pay their employees more the are going to pay less employees.

Although I don't work for a "small" business, that's how we run it in order to stay profitable. We choose to charge customers less than other sit-down restaurants and our profit margin is very slim. When we have to pay out more for something, whether it be food or employees then it means we have to make up the difference elsewhere. In this case it means more management productivity and less associates.

So for all of you folks that supported the minimum wage increase/pay cut for the rest of the country that are now unemployed and therefore making less than you were before, HA FUCKING HA!
