Update 9-2-08 5:20am - I found a site linked off of McGehee's blog last night, Sarah Palin Facts. Good for a chuckle.
I am still leaning toward a write-in candidate or maybe Bob Barr. I just don't know. I used to think that John McCain would make a pretty good president but the last few years my attitude has been changing and except for the fact that I am scared of having Barack Obama in office I would do just as I mentioned but I feel like a vote against John McCain would be a vote for Obama and that's just not a good thing. Speaking of Obama I still haven't received my Obama button yet so I can deface it...
Anyway, I was really surprised at McCain's pick of Sarah Palin for VP. Not because of her politics but just because of the 'maverickness' his choice included. Personally I thought that maybe he was going to pick Senator Leiberman. I probably wouldn't have had a problem with that either. Personally I think we need to shake things up every once in a while between the Democrats and the Republicans and I would hate to see either in office too terribly long.
Anyway, what about Sarah Palin?
Good choice or not?
1. She's pro-life. That doesn't bother me but my personal opinion is that the federal government needs to stay the heck out of that boondoggle and let the individual states decide their laws.
2. What about Sarah Palin's religion? According to what I have read she's a bible-believing Christian who attends a non-denominational Bible church. I don't have a freaking clue what that means but it sounds pretty harmless and I guess as good as it will get. They need to leave all that religious mumbo-jumbo out of governing anyway. Live your principles but leave the church at church.
3. She's pretty young, just a couple of years older than me as a matter of fact. 44 years old. That's a good thing in my eyes. At least of McCain croaks she'll be able to finish his term. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing anyway. Considering she has probably spent more time governing her state than Obama has actually spent working in the halls of Congress it's sort of a wash.
4. What about scandals involving Sarah Palin? Obviously her teenage daughter is pregnant. Well, shit. Makes her more human in my eyes. More like the rest of us and my personal opinion is that we need more regular people in congress and get rid of a bunch of lawyers and career politicians. I've also read up on the trooper thing and don't really know much about it except to say I guess we need to wait and see what happens.
Overall I think I like her and while the common wisdom is that people don't vote for the VPs, it might make up my mind once and for all. Plus, she's a hell of a lot better looking than Biden and not as much of a damned loudmouth bitch either.
What do you think about Sarah Palin and will it effect your vote at all?

So did you see one of the damn ads that takes you over to MoveOn's web site? They are giving out a shitload of Obama '08 buttons for free. :)
Not that I have any intention of voting for the communist but I ordered my free button. I just have to decide what to do with it once I get it.
Normally I try and vote my convictions. That would mean voting for Ron Paul or Bob Barr but this year as in recent elections, I have to vote for the lesser of two evils because I truly believe that every vote counts. I would hate to be the guy that didn't vote for middle-of-the-road McCain and have Obama take office next January. That's gonna suck if he wins. For the most part I think that all of the politicians are pretty much the same but I truly believe that Obama will be weak on terrorism and defense and strong on taxation and heading the country into even more of a socialist direction than we have been heading since we became a welfare state. Thus I will end up voting for the status quo because some things are worse than big government and that's Obama's big government.
Not that I listen to any of that religious claptrap bullshit but some of the serious right-wing radio shows and nutjobs are saying that Barack Obama is the anti-christ returned to lead us to revelation and the apocalypse, blah blah blah...
Sorry, I nodded off to sleep there for a minute. It's like when my wife starts talking to me about math. When i start to listen to fundamentalist bullshit I get this dull buzzing in my ears like I am stoned or something and I just want to go to sleep.
I guess the McCain campaign decided to tap into that when they released this short commercial...
It's called "The One".
Bwahahaha. I laughed my ass off when I saw it. Kind of makes the whole Willie Horton deal look mild...
Not that I really think he could be the anti-christ but you never know...
I wonder if his mom thought about naming him Damian.
Apparently a pair of brothers linked to the terrorist group Hamas has donated at least $29,000 to the Barack Hussein Obama campaign and those funds have yet to be returned to the folks that donated. That makes it an FEC violation doesn't it?
Stop the ACLU
I am sure that should this ever reach a level reported by the MSM they will return the donations but where is the main stream media on this story? They were damn sure all over Ron Paul when it was found out that he had received donations from a white supremacist. At least that dude was an American citizen and not a fucking member of a horrendous terrorist organization located thousands of miles across the ocean.
World Net Daily has the story on this one:
The Edwans are a large clan that include top Hamas supporters.
Speaking to WND, the two brothers praised Obama and admitted giving the money online to his campaign. They said they are not U.S. citizens or green card holders but are citizens of "Palestine."
The Edwans denied they are affiliated with Hamas. Palestinian sources in Gaza confirmed the Edwans in question are secular, but could not say whether they supported Hamas.
Monir and Hasam Edwan denied their financial transactions online - listed as donations in U.S. government election filings - were actual donations to Obama's campaign. Instead they claimed they purchased about $30,000 in Obama T-shirts from the presidential candidate's online store - a contention that did not hold up during a WND interview, when they changed their story several times.
"My brother Hosam and I knew that Obama will be a big hit even before he became a candidate. We knew the guy would be a celebrity in Gaza so we decided to invest the amount of $29,000 to buy Obama T-shirts from his website and sell them in Gaza," Monir Edwan told WND, speaking by cell phone from Gaza.
"I know on the back of this story Obama rivals will present our business as a donation and they will try to use this story to let Obama fall, but I'm telling you, we bought T-shirts," Edwan maintained.
Edwan said any profit made from purportedly selling the Obama T-shirts was not returned to the Obama campaign.
"We have nothing to do with the Obama campaign. We just like Obama and believe he will be the best for the Palestinians and for the world."
At first Monir Edwan claimed he sold the T-shirts in Gaza for around $9 and that a profit was made.
"Some young men even bought the T-shirts for 60 shekel ($17.29), which is a lot to spend in Gaza on a T-shirt, but that is how much Gazans like Obama," Edwan claimed.
But it was pointed out to Edwan the T-shirts for sale on Obama's website are listed as $20.08 and that selling the merchandise for less would not yield a profit.
"Maybe we sold the shirts for a lot more. I can't remember now," said Edwan.
Asked why he would purchase T-shirts at such a high rate and pay the cost of shipping when he could pay a company to produce T-shirts for less, Edwan replied, "We wanted the shirts to come from the campaign."
But Edwan could not explain how he managed to get shipments of T-shirts into the Gaza Strip during the months he claimed to have purchased the merchandise, since Israel imposed a tight closure of the Gaza Strip starting in June 2007 that lasted until June 2008, when the Israeli government agreed to a cease-fire with Hamas in Gaza.
"We don't want to cause any damage to Obama's campaign," was Edwan's reply.
Speaking of Gaza, what the fuck is up with Obama campaigning in Europe anyway? Is this some kind of pre-victory lap? I know the other major candidates always hit a few places outside the U.S. but it seems so much more low-key. It's not as if he's trying to run for President of the World. Or is it? President of Islam maybe...
Ron Paul elected not to return the money to the guy that donated it saying that the money was in better use in the hands of his campaign. He had a pretty good point actually but he was blasted over it. Has Obama returned the money yet? Is he going to? If not, why does he not feel like the money should be returned particularly since it's illegal to take donations from outside the U.S.

Pretty harsh, huh? Remember that when you go out to vote for Mr Socialist Barack Obama on election day, particularly if Shrillary is VP. Some jackass from my neck of the woods will go out and try to kill Obama simply because he's black. Now that's harsh but sometimes reality is harsh. I like to think that we have moved beyond that kind of racist crap but the fact is we haven't. As a matter of fact I think we are going to have extremely heavy turnout during this election cycle with many people voting because of race that normally would not vote.
According to CNN, Clinton will be speaking on Saturday (tomorrow) about how together they can rally the Democratic party behind Senator Obama. She is saying that she will endorse Obama though. I'm pretty sure that Obama has some ideas on how to do that without Clinton's help. From what I have read, Barack Obama's campaign would be open to paying off Clinton's campaign debts (in excess of $20 million). Maybe that's the price of keeping her off the ticket.
According to Howard Wolfson, Clinton's communications director, she is not seeking the vice-presidency but then he goes on to say that the choice is Barack Obama's and his alone. She's still pushing that universal healthcare crap, which I am assuming is the reason she is trying to hang on to her delegates right now.
I hate politician double speak. They all suck. McCain is a little bit better and most likely I will end up having to vote for him simply to keep Obama out of office. It's not that I dislike McCain particularly but I would much prefer to vote for Ron Paul or Bob Barr in the general election. I feel like the vote is going to be so close that I would prefer to vote for the lesser of two evils.
Half of the crap on the news and all over the Internet is about the 2008 election or the damned caucuses and Super Tuesday.
I still don't know who I am going to vote for.
Most of the candidates look like idiots and liars.
I like Ron Paul's economic ideas and the fact that he stands for state's rights and not passing any laws that are contrary to the constitution but I don't particularly like his stance on abortion. His ideas mirror quite a few of mine but he's just not a viable candidate because the fucking mainstream media has badmouthed him to the point where he looks like a racist and a kook and he damn sure doesn't help his cause. By sticking to his principles in front of the press he stays true to himself and his supporters while killing his campaign at the same time.
Unfortunately I think we need to brace for Hillary Clinton. I suppose it's possible that Obama get the nomination but even with him taking number one in South Carolina I think Clinton will get the delegates on Super Tuesday that will clinch the nomination and she damn sure has the popular sheep vote.
We do live in the nanny/mommy state after all. My youngest daughter has been running a fever all day and my wife has already made plans to stay home with her tomorrow. The girl is miserable but we have been taking care of her. Taking her temperature, getting her drinks and whatever she wants to ear, giving her Children's Tylenol, even feeding her Jello.
That's what the majority of Americans want. The want to government to spoon feed them fucking Jello every time they don't feel good or have a problem. Can't afford your mortgage because you were too much of a fucking dumb ass to say "maybe we should look at something a bit cheaper"? It's OK, Shrillary is here to save the day.
Even George Bush is getting into the game with the economic 'stimulus' plan for us. $600? Big fucking deal. The only stimulus we'll get out of that is if we go spend a couple hundred bucks on vibrators and stick them up our asses.
The people that are in decent shape don't need and will only save the $600 and most of the folks that really need it? $600 is a drop in the bucket. Hell, I will owe more than that on my 2007 taxes if I ever get all of my 1099s and get them filed. Thanks, but keep the money for the deficit. It damn sure needs more help than I do. If you want to help me do away with the IRS and pass a national retail sales tax along the lines of the Fairtax.
As much of a proponent as I am of stopping illegal immigration, I happen to agree with most of the landowners in Texas along the Rio Grande.
Michael Chertoff, the Director of Homeland Security, thinks that the 370 miles of fence that they plan to get built by the end of 2008 will help to stop the flow of illegal immigration into this country. I just don't see that shit happening myself. He also said that new border crossing rules go into effect this month that will mean longer lines for those entering the U.S. but are necessary to prevent another terrorist attack (not only that but you have to look like you are doing something in order to keep your job)
Take Arizona for instance. What's stopping it there and why are illegal immigrants deporting themselves in droves? Simple, Arizona is starting to enforce their existing laws and has passed some really tough new laws that make it much harder for employers to hire and keep working illegal immigrants. If faced with the choice of no job here and no job back home with their family, they are going back home.
Perhaps some of the other states need to follow Arizona's lead and start enforcing the already existing laws that are on the books and chase these folks back to their country of origin and then they can go through the process of legally immigrating here.
Richard Cortez, the mayor of the border town of McAllen Texas calls the fence a multi-million dollar speedbump and believes that hiring more border patrol agents, deepening the Rio Grande and clearing it's banks of tall vegetation would provide better border protection than the fence. Not only that but it would provide more jobs for hard working American citizens.
The justice department started taking legal action this week against landowners and towns that have refused to give government surveyors access to their land. Big Brother at his best I suppose. The landowners say that they will not be intimidated. In some cases, such as Eloisa Tamez, the land has been in people's families since before the United States even existed. Tamez family received their land in a grant from the Spanish Government in 1767. I realize that doesn't have a hill of beans to do with ours, but our country and constitution is all about life, liberty and property and we are pulling out one of the three legs that the constitution stands upon by letting the federal government with it's mommy mentality just take and take and take.
But then again, those of us that are sheep that keep crying for our mommy to take care of us are the ones that are responsible for letting it happen. Can't find a job? The government will take care of you. Can't afford healthcare? The government will take care of you. Don't want to stand up and be a man and take responsibility for your financial decisions? That's OK, Mommy government will take care of you and it's just going to get worse because we are getting ready to elect the Hildabeast to the Presidency of the United States and if you think Government with it's Big Brother attitude is bad under Bush, wait until you get a load of what it's going to look like under someone that has no respect whatsoever for the common man.
Kind of got off track there for a minute I guess. It's true though. I think that no matter how many of us don't want to see Hillary Clinton in office, she is going to get elected and it will be one of the worst presidencies in quite some time.
