Blogtoberfest

The wife posted an entry over at her site. Apparently the phone number she posted for the Chalet Kristy was incorrect. The correct number is 706-878-2155. Also, oh by the way, there is something else big going on that weekend (aside from the fact that it's Oktoberfest in Helen) so if you are planning on reserving a room for the Southeastern Writer's Conference you need to get it done now!

I have a site set up as well over here. I will post pictures over there and there is directions to the hotel as well as pricing.

I am getting ready to take another plunge and upgrade Movabletype 4.2 release candidate 2 to 3. I made a full backup of the system last night in case anything gets hosed so if the sites go down shortly, they'll be back up eventually.

Still can't get the friendfeed comment importer to work, I am hoping after the upgrade that it might...

Why the fuck not?

I just thought it would be cool. Normally if I am going someplace I have to hunt down the particular post with directions/prices/etc just to find out where I am going and what I need to bring.

I figured it would be nice to set up a quick site for folks to get info about Blogtoberfest. What's that you ask? Blogtoberfest is just what it sounds like. A drunk blogging festival! It has also been called the yellin' in Helen among other things depending on who you ask. It was started by the late Rob Smith when he met up with a couple of other Georgia bloggers (and others from the vicinity) at Blood Mountain and has sort of devolved evolved into something known as the Southeastern Writer's Conference, at least to the poor souls who run the Chalet Kristy.

I was unfortunate not to have met Rob before he passed away in June of 2006 but I did stay at a Holiday Inn that night managed to get to Savannah to attend his funeral, which is where I managed to meet all sorts of strange and wonderful people. If you have to ask whether I think you are strange or wonderful, don't bother.

Anyway, the Chalet Kristy is set on the banks of the Chattahoochee river in Helen, Georgia during Oktoberfest. Beer, bloggers, beer. Sweet, no?

This is set up so that if you want to post vital information for the weekend or just chit-chat, you can. So when is the weekend?

October 10th-12th, although quite a few of us will arrive the evening of the 9th, which is a Thursday. The wife is supposed to be verifying with the hotel that the weekend of the 10th is OK and setting aside a block of rooms, but you will need to make your reservations early. They also have a few cabins as well. Once I get confirmation that it's OK for us to return to the dive fine establishment I will post directions, phone numbers, rates and other pertinent stuff.
